Redman rows to two golds

Spokane native Jamie Redman earned a pair of gold medals as part of the United States women’s eights and fours teams at the Rowing World Cup in Lucerne, Switzerland on Sunday.

The United States rallied in the last 100 meters of the race to defeat Canada and finished with a time of 6:12.19 in the eights final.

Redman won her first gold in Saturday’s fours final when her crew took an early lead and never let go, pushing past China and Germany for the victory with a time of 6:47.87.

The United States men’s and women’s teams won a total of four medals at the regatta.

Pitch Hit & Run

Three area children won their age divisions at the Aquafina Pitch Hit & Run team competition held at Seattle’s Safeco Field on June 20.

Abby Howard of Post Falls was first in the 11-12-year-old girls division, Kodie Kolden of Post Falls was first in the 9-10-year-old boys, and Reilly Williams of Coeur d’Alene won in 9-10-year-old girls.

Other local competitors included: Kylie Rasmussen (Dalton Gardens, Idaho) second in 13-14 girls, Jonny Plum (Hayden) third in 11-12 boys, and Madison Fernimen (Dalton Gardens) third in 7-8 girls.
