Man loses lower leg in auger accident

Associated Press
A 27-year-old Moscow man lost his lower right leg after he stumbled into an operating grain auger, Whitman County officials say. Levi Johnstone was working at Whitco Grain Inc., in Ewan, Wash., when the accident occurred around 3 p.m. Monday. Sheriff’s Sgt. Rick McNanny says Johnstone was carrying a metal frame with another employee when he stumbled and stepped into an opening in the floor which housed the spinning auger. The Lewiston Tribune reports Johnstone’s leg entered the auger housing and was severed below the knee. Johnstone was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, where he was listed in stable condition Tuesday.
