Firefighters put out a small brush fire on today in the vicinity of Camp Sekani along East Upriver Drive, the second brush fire in the area this week.

Spokane County Fire District No. 9 crews reported that the 2:10 p.m. fire was about a quarter-acre in size and was threatening structures near the city-owned park property located outside the Spokane city limits along the Spokane River northeast of Upriver Dam.

On Monday, city and District 9 firefighters fought a five-acre fire during heavy winds a short distance to the southwest. That fire was determined to have been caused by human activity.

Transients have been living in the area, officials said.

Both fires occurred on the southern slope of Beacon Hill on the north side of the river.
