In brief: Artists gather on Palouse July 23-25

VALLEYFORD – On Sacred Grounds, Art and Book Gallery, 12212 E. Palouse Highway, will present the fourth annual Artists Loose on the Palouse arts and crafts fair July 23 through 25.

The event includes a steak dinner catered by Fredneck’s on July 23 at 5 p.m. Tickets are $18 per person and must be purchased by Saturday. The Michael Robinson Trio will be playing.

On July 24, the Valleyford Historical Society will have an Old Valleyford Walking Tour, beginning at 11 a.m. at On Sacred Grounds.

Valleyford’s Little Parade will be from noon to 12:30 p.m. on July 25 and a classic car and tractor show will follow the parade.

Corbin hosts arts and crafts camp

CLIFF/CANNON – The Corbin Art Center, 507 W. Seventh Ave., will hold a fine arts and crafts summer camp for kids ages 3 to 11, beginning July 26. Pre-registration is required for all classes.

• Prehistoric Adventure Camp, for children ages 3-5. The camp runs July 26-July 30 and is from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Cost is $52 per person.

• Making crafts, for children ages 3-5. The camp runs July 26-July 30 and is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Cost is $27 per person.

• Natures Wonders, for kids ages 3-5. The camp runs July 26-July 30 and is from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Cost is $27 per person.

• Painting and Mixed Media Workshop, for kids ages 6-11. This class is on July 26 and is from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Cost is $27 per person.

• Alternative Drawing Methods Workshop, for kids ages 6-11. This class is on July 29 and is from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Cost is $27 per person.

• Creative Painting Workshop, for kids ages 6-11. This class is on July 30 and is from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Cost is $27 per person.

Free tour of Manito’s Rose Hill

MANITO – The Friends of the Manito will have a tour of the Rose Hill garden in Manito Park on Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m.

Rose Hill has more than 150 varieties of hybrid tea, grandiflora, floribunda climbers and miniature roses along with a collection of old-fashioned roses.

The event is free and open to the public.

Free tax workshop for business owners

EMERSON/GARFIELD – The Spokane office of the Washington state Department of Revenue will hold a free tax workshop for new- and small-business owners on Wednesday, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Rocky Pointe III, 1330 N. Washington St.

Participants will learn about Washington excise taxes, reporting classifications, deductions, tax incentives, sales tax collection, and record keeping requirements. The business owners will receive a workbook and reference guide to the Department of Revenue rules and regulations.

Grant Grade School potluck for alumni

EAST CENTRAL – Former students of Grant Grade School, from 1920 to 1970, are invited to a potluck picnic at Grant Park on July 24 at 11:30 a.m.

Attendees will have the opportunity to visit with former classmates, view more than 170 pictures of different classes, along with school antiques.

Participants should bring chairs, plates and utensils, drinks and a favorite food to share. Card tables are encouraged. The picnic will be near 10th Avenue and Perry Street, at the cul-de-sac by a large tree.

Mt. Spokane grad receives scholarship

CHICAGO – Jaclyn Brim, a recent Mt. Spokane High School graduate, was honored at a luncheon as one of the winners of the 2010 ULTA Enrich, Empower and Enlighten Scholarship.

Brim received a $2,500 award, along with a shopping spree at ULTA State Street and mini makeovers in Chicago. She was one of 28 young women who were awarded the scholarship for their academic achievements, community involvement, leadership qualities and commitment to continuing their education.

In a press release from ULTA, Brim said that she planned on using her scholarship to help her study abroad.
