Former Husky Robinson back with Celtics

NBA: The Boston Celtics have agreed in principle with former University of Washington guard Nate Robinson on a new contract, a team official told the Associated Press. The deal reunites the 5-foot-9 guard with Glen “Big Baby” Davis on a Boston bench that provided an important contribution during last year’s run to the NBA finals.

A Celtics spokesman declined to comment, but the official confirmed the agreement to the AP on the condition of anonymity because the contract was not yet signed. The Boston Herald reported that Robinson will get $4 million a year for two seasons.

Magic match Redick offer sheet: In a move that highlights his remarkable NBA turnaround, the same Orlando Magic team that once benched J.J. Redick shelled out $19 million to retain the shooting guard. They matched a three-year offer sheet that the Chicago Bulls made last week.

Brewer inks deal with Chicago: The agent for Ronnie Brewer confirmed the guard has agreed to a three-year contract with the Chicago Bulls.

The deal reunites Brewer with former Utah teammates Carlos Boozer and Kyle Korver, who became Bulls earlier this month. Brewer finished last season with Memphis after being dealt from Utah at the trade deadline in February.

• Miller deal official: Mike Miller’s deal with Miami is finally complete. The 6-foot-8 shooter actually signed his contract Thursday, but it took about another 24 hours for it become finalized because of other paperwork issues.

NFL suspends Packers’ Jolly

NFL: The NFL suspended defensive end Johnny Jolly, indefinitely and without pay, for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

The Packer’s suspension will last at least through the 2010 season. Jolly is eligible to apply for reinstatement after Super Bowl XLV.

Jolly received a year-long suspension without any previous suspensions. But it is possible that Jolly was notified of a suspension and he appealed it. An appeal can take months and none of that information is made public.

Kim, McDaniel last two at Public Links

Golf: Lion Kim birdied his final two holes to beat Kevin Phelan in the semifinals of the U.S. Amateur Public Links at Greensboro, N.C., and will face David McDaniel for the championship today at Bryan Park Golf and Conference Center.

Former University of Washington golfer Darren Wallace lost in the quarterfinals to Pepperdine’s Josh Anderson, while current UW golfer and Chris Williams lost to Kim in the quarters.

Sprinters stripped of medals win appeal

Olympics: American sprinters who were stripped of their 2000 Olympics relay medals because teammate Marion Jones was doping won an appeal to have them restored.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled in favor of the women, who had appealed the International Olympic Committee’s decision to disqualify them from the Sydney Games.

Jearl Miles-Clark, Monique Hennagan, LaTasha Colander Clark and Andrea Anderson were part of the squad that won gold in the 4x400 relay. Chryste Gaines, Torri Edwards, Nanceen Perry and Passion Richardson were on the 4x100 bronze medal squad.

IOC keeps BP as sponsor: President Jacques Rogge said that the International Olympic Committee has had lengthy discussions with London organizers about BP’s sponsorship of the 2012 Summer Games, and the IOC is OK with the deal if the company takes the proper corrective measures after the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

IOC announces Dow sponsorship: Dow Chemical announced its new 10-year deal with the International Olympic Committee, making it the official “chemistry company” for the games.

Bolt wins 100 meters at Paris Diamond

Miscellany: Olympic and World champion Usain Bolt recovered from a poor start to win the 100 meters in 9.84 seconds at the Paris Diamond League meet at Saint-Denis, France. Bolt set a meet record and beat fellow Jamaican Asafa Powell, who finished second in 9.91.

Villeneuve trying NASCAR: Former Indianapolis 500 champion and Formula One star Jacques Villeneuve is heading back to the Brickyard, where he will attempt to qualify the No. 32 Toyota for Braun Racing in NASCAR’s annual Cup visit to the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s 2.5-mile oval on July 25.

WSOP field narrowing: Players left at the World Series of Poker main event were each guaranteed a six-figure payday after six early eliminations.

French player Gabriel Nassif busted in 73rd place from the no-limit Texas Hold ’em tournament during the first two hours of play, earning $94,942 and bumping the remaining entrants to at least $114,205.

Top prize in the tournament is $8.94 million, with two sessions left to determine who reaches the final table.
