Man runs off with fundraiser proceeds

A benefit car wash for the Northeast Youth Center came up short on Saturday after someone stole the cash box. About 2 p.m., witnesses saw a man walk to a table, grab the box, and run to a waiting vehicle, according to a news release from the center. The car wash, designed to raise money to send low-income kids to camp this summer, was held at the Yoke’s parking lot on North Foothills Drive. The car was described as a burgundy Chevy Lumina. The robber was described as white, 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-11, 170 to 185 pounds, with dark hair. He was wearing a blue shirt and dark pants. The driver was a black woman, and there was another woman in the car. The empty cash box was found a few blocks away, the news release said. An account to support the Northeast Youth Center has been set up at Banner Bank. For more information, visit http://spokaneneyc.org/.
