Ex-GU star Ching on All-Star team

MLS: Houston forward Brian Ching has been added to Major League Soccer’s All-Star roster for the July 28 game against Manchester United in Houston.

Ching, who was cut from the U.S. World Cup team, and D.C. United forward Jaime Moreno were selected Monday by MLS commissioner Don Garber.

MLS coach Bruce Arena of the Los Angeles Galaxy added 11 players: goalkeeper Nick Rimando (Salt Lake); defenders Kevin Alston (New England), Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA), Wilman Conde (Chicago) and Heath Pearce (Dallas); midfielders Sebastien Le Toux (Philadelphia), David Ferreira (Dallas), Brad Davis (Houston), Shalrie Joseph (New England) and Jeff Larentowicz (Colorado); and forward Juan Pablo Angel (New York).

Cheney pair first to earn $100k

Rodeo: Cheney bareback rider Ryan Gray and bull rider Shawn Hogg became the first cowboys to surpass $100,000 for the 2010 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.

Gray won the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo in Colorado Springs. That pushed his season earnings to $103,047.

Hogg was making his first appearance since losing the first two joints of the ring finger on his left hand in a riding mishap two weeks earlier.

Sherritt voted preseason MVP

College football: Montana running back Chase Reynolds and Eastern Washington linebacker J.C. Sherritt have been named the Big Sky Conference preseason offensive and defensive MVPs in a vote by media and sports information directors.

Sherritt led the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision with 14.17 tackles per game as a junior last season. The Pullman High School graduate was joined on the preseason All-Conference team by Eagles running back Taiwan Jones and defensive lineman Renard Williams.

Bullpups film earns praise

“Pups”, the documentary centered on the career of several members of the Class of 2009 Gonzaga Prep football team, was named Best Documentary Short at the All Sports Los Angeles Film Festival.

The half-hour film, created by University of Idaho professor and G-Prep graduate Denise Bennett, debuted at the Spokane Film Festival.
