Rape suspect arrested in downtown Spokane

A Spokane man was arrested on suspicion of rape Tuesday after a woman said she was attacked in an abandoned house in the 1100 block of West Fifth Avenue.

Kelvin D. McCauley, 43, was arrested near Third Avenue and Monroe Street after a woman ran down the street about 6 p.m. screaming she’d been raped and citizens called police, according to a news release.

The woman had broken ribs and a broken wrist, but police aren’t sure if the injuries came from an assault or from a fall from the second-floor window of the home, which she said she’d jumped out of to escape, police said.

The woman was taken to a hospital. McCauley was booked into Spokane County Jail on charges of second-degree rape and first-degree burglary.

His criminal record includes convictions for theft, escape and money laundering. He was convicted of misdemeanor theft in March and sentenced to 90 days in jail, records show.

Sounds more like a open relationship gone bad where all parties were involved and invited then something went wrong.

Don’t condone hitting a woman at anytime, place or for any reason. But I do think there is A LOT MORE to this story than is being let out.

My bad, there was another and I pasted over.

To bad for this one. Welcome to Spokane. See only here you can be in a abandoned house and still be able to press charges. Next time lady.. Don’t trespass and you may get a better outcome on the day.

You yourself are responsible for this. I hope you can read, SR please translate to esp~ just to be sure. Do NOT BE IN A PLACE THAT YOU ARE NOT TO BE AND YOU MAY HAVE A BETTER DAY.

What happend to her I call BS. She is a criminal by the report. Criminals Lie.

Nomore - you are disgusting. Its just amazing some of the things you say on here, and not amazing in a good way.

Nomore, she’s responsible for this? How can she be responsible for his actions? I’m not getting your comments. Yes, she shouldn’t have been where she was. But, that doesn’t mean she’s prey to whatever lurks.

nomore, I have to agree with the above posts…it’s big of you to blame the woman for the assault, took real insight as a person to make your judgment.

    Nomore,

Your complete lack of compassion for your fellow man is astounding. McCauley is worse than you but not by much. Where in the article does it say the woman is Hispanic and if she is you assume she can’t read english. You’re a bigot and a moron. Please crawl back under the rock you live under and stay there.

I like nomore’s comments. It’s good to know his perspective on life when he chooses to comment about politics. It’s a shame the republicans will be there to welcome your votes.

looking back at Nomore’s previous comments I see that he is a believer that there is plenty of racism in the world but it is all against the white man.

I feel sorry for him! It must be tough being a white man in America.

We don’t know why she was even in the house nomore. She might have been grabbed off the street in front of the house, forced inside, and assaulted there. She might not have been trespassing. She might have owned the abandoned house or been contracted to sell it. We don’t know. The disregard you show by this level of assumption is despicable.

spokanada, what does “It’s a shame the republicans will be there to welcome your votes.” have anything to do with this article or nomore? Geez, stay on topic for once.

That they charged this idiot for burglary makes it seem like he was already in the house before she came into the picture, which would seem to suggest that he forced her in, rather than stumbled upon her already there. Sorry, but if a woman has to jump out of a window to escape an attacker, she deserves not only the benefit of no assumptions as to how she got in the house until the facts are known, but also the best wishes for justice and a full recovery from her injuries.

Hopefully, if there is anything that can be gained from this, it will be to increase peoples awareness of their surroundings. Not saying she wasn’t aware, because who knows and who cares, just saying that many times there are things a person can do to lessen the likelihood of being victimized. Such as, take corners wide, pass by sketchy houses on the other side of the street, avoid large gatherings of questionable people, ect. Freaks are everywhere.
