Suspect arrested in bank robberies

A man on federal probation for passing counterfeit money was arrested Tuesday in Spokane on suspicion of bank robberies in Omak, Wenatchee and Moses Lake.

Cameron Len Gaunt, 28, of Chelan, Wash., was arrested at a Sprague Avenue motel about 7:30 p.m., said Bob Doty of the U.S. Marshals Service.

A warrant was issued for Gaunt on a federal probation violation after a tipster identified him Tuesday as a suspect in robberies at the Bank of America in Omak on July 13, a Washington Trust Bank in Wenatchee on Friday and a Washington Trust Bank in Moses Lake on Tuesday.

Gaunt was sentenced in 2008 to three years in federal prison and three years probation for passing counterfeit currency across the Pacific Northwest, according to court documents.

Before his sentencing in August 2008, prosecutors predicted that, without “significant effort” on Gaunt’s part, his criminal behavior would continue after prison, according to court documents. Gaunt was released June 18, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
