Baseball, softball teams in tourneys

It’s tournament time for Spokane Valley Baseball and Valley Girls Softball league teams.

Girls double-elimination play began this week and concludes today for 18U, 14U, 12U and 10U Divisions.

Boys Midget and PeeWee Divisions began this week and continue through next Saturday with championship games at West Valley High School.

Valley Girls Softball

18U – Commercial Battery defeated Homerun Construction 4-1 to share the regular-season championship. Both teams finished with 9-1 records to earn top two tournament seeds. Old Country Buffet (8-2) and WKA Innovations (7-3) are right behind.

14U – Baker Construction (9-1) finished ahead of Flying J (8-2) and Marz Mountain (7-3). Robbi Quinn was 3-for-3 in Baker’s season ending win.

12U – Megawash and Planet Beach finished 10-0 and led their opposition by at least three games. In its regular season finale, Planet Beach’s Alex Judge hit a two-run triple, Abby Groh a 2-run double and Courtney Carolan homered.

10U – McDonald’s also completed a perfect 10-0 season, with UNICEP finishing a game behind and Old Country Buffet two games back.

Highlights: Emily Ruiz from A&W drove in seven runs with two home runs and Chloe Gellhaus also homered twice. Four players from Mist went 4-for-4, including Kami Kosa who hit a grand slam home run. Katie Gage hit a 3-run homer for Meyers Drywall.

Spokane Valley Baseball

Midget – Raycap (Greenacres) finished 10-1 to earn top seed by a game over River City Pizza (Otis Orchards). They are top two seeds in the 10-team tournament, although any of five teams appear capable of reaching the finals.

Highlights: Ryan Leifer hit a double and two singles, driving in a pair of runs, although American On-Site Services (Pasadena) lost 7-6 to NW Building Components. The fourth and fifth seeds met again to open the single elimination tourney. Isaiah Hainline was 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs for Autocraft (University)

PeeWee – Liberty Lake I edged Blasingame Insurance (University) 4-3 for a 11-0 regular season. Blasingame finished two games back in third, behind Hurliman Heating (Chester I) which went 10-1.

Hurliman’s Blake Dickinson and Max Skidmore each had three hits, Dickinson scoring four runs and Skidmore driving in five with a double and triple in their final game.

Brandon Reis drove in four runs, Austin Holman had a triple and three RBIs in games for Elephant Boys.
