Heritage celebration at LDS church

The East Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will celebrate its pioneer heritage with a free family and community event today from 8 a.m. to noon at the Stake Center, 13608 E. 40th Ave. The day will begin with a parade and a musical tribute to the pioneers, followed by a free breakfast.

The games and activities will all have a pioneer theme. There will be pony cart rides, gold panning, a log sawing contest, “meadow muffin” Frisbee golf and handcart races. The event is open to the public.

Singles barbecue

Christian Singles Fellowship will host its ninth annual day-long picnic for singles today from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Liberty Lake County Park, 3707 S. Zephyr Road.

The day will begin with a hike and include volleyball, swimming and games for all ages. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12, which includes lunch. The ticket price does not include admission to the park. For more information, visit www.csfspokane.com.

Religious drama

Dramatic Difference Ministries, a traveling theater group, will put on a performance of the play “He Makes Me Laugh” at 11 a.m. Sunday at Valley Bible Church, 3021 S. Sullivan Road. The free performance presents the Biblical story of Abraham and Sarah.

Vacation Bible school

Hope Lutheran Church in Greenacres will host a vacation Bible school session Aug. 2-6. Classes will be held from 9 a.m. to noon for children age 4 through the sixth grade. The theme of the free event is “Zip, Zap, Zoom … Bee a Bold Believer.” The registration deadline is Monday. Call the church at (509) 924-1630 or visit www.hlcms.org to register. Hope Lutheran also will be hosting a garage sale at 527 N. Barker Road on Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and next Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Hymn sing

The Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene will host a hymn sing at 6 p.m. Sunday at the church, 15515 E. 20th Ave. Dessert will be served following the event.
