Southside Senior and Community Center Exercise Classes – Balance and Agility 1: Held Thursdays through Sept. 2, 1-2 p.m. Class is designed for those who need additional help with balance and control and also to help improve the way they walk. Balance and Agility 2: Held Thursdays through Sept. 2, 2-3 p.m. Class is designed for those who want to further enhance the way they respond to balance and increase strength and agility. Mat Yoga: Held Fridays through Sept. 3, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Explore the gentle movements to increase flexibility, strength and well-being. This class will cover body stretches, yoga postures, and breathing practices, then participants are guided into deep relaxation. Pilates “Mastering the Mat”: Held Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 10-Sept 16, 5-6 p.m. This is a beginner’s Pilates class that is perfect for those who have never done Pilates before. This class will help strengthen and tone your core, improve your posture and flexibility, help heal any back pain and tone your body from head to toe. Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s Purpleride – Aug. 28. First annual Purpleride is a 35-mile bike ride from Spokane to Coeur d’Alene along the Centennial Trail. All proceeds go to benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. A summer picnic at Riverstone Park in Coeur d’Alene and an awards ceremony and live entertainment by the Kelly Hughes band will follow the ride. 35-mile ride starts in Spokane Avista parking lot across from Mission Park at 9 a.m. 15-mile ride leaves Riverstone Park in Coeur d’Alene at 10 a.m. Four-mile family ride leaves Riverstone Park at 11 a.m. Picnic is held noon-4 p.m., open to the public.
