Man airlifted to hospital after car crash near Usk

A Cheney man was airlifted to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center this morning after being injured in a traffic accident in Pend Oreille County.

Kenneth R. Engel, 22, is facing a charge of driving under the influence, the Washington State Patrol said.

He was listed this morning in satisfactory condition at Providence Sacred Heart.

Engel was eastbound on state Highway 20 about 7 a.m. when the 2003 Subaru Forester he was driving went off the road at a high rate of speed and collided with a pole and rolled once. The accident was 10 miles north of Usk.
