Firefighters put an end to a 1-acre brush fire near West Indian Trail Road, but had to wait out 30 mile per hour winds that tempted the embers.
When firefighters and engines arrived at the brush fire, half of the acre was burning along a hillside near G Street and Excell Avenue, according to the Spokane Fire Department. The crews had difficulty reaching the flames because of the steep terrain, but put out the flames in under an hour.
As wind gusts approached, the crews remained to maintain the outage. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but no people or homes were harmed, the Fire Department said.
