Girl, 10, nearly drowns in Witter Pool

A 10 year-old-girl nearly drowned at the Witter Aquatic Center on East Mission this afternoon.

The girl was admitted to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, said Assistant Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer, a spokesman for the Spokane Fire Department. Her condition was not available.

The girl was in the water when her aunt noticed there was something wrong, Schaeffer said. The aunt told medical responders that when she approached her niece, the girl’s eyes were rolled back into her head, Schaeffer said.

Lifeguards immediately responded and the fire crew arrived within minutes, Schaeffer said.
