Car crash on Highway 20 sends driver to hospital

A Cheney man was airlifted to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center Tuesday morning after being injured in a traffic accident in Pend Oreille County.

Kenneth R. Engel, 22, is facing a charge of driving under the influence, the Washington State Patrol said. He was listed in satisfactory condition Tuesday.

Engel was eastbound on state Highway 20, 10 miles north of Usk, about 7 a.m. when the 2003 Subaru Forester he was driving went off the road at high speed, crashed into a pole and rolled once.
