Suspended Boise State football coach Chris Petersen said safety Jason Robinson has been suspended for the first three games of the season. Robinson pleaded guilty on May 25 to mis- demeanor battery for breaking a man’s jaw during a fight at a Boise bar. He was sentenced to 20 days on a county labor crew, ordered to pay $29,000 in restitution and perform 200 hours of community service.
Surgery The Memphis Grizzlies say rookie guard Greivis Vasquez under- went surgery on his right ankle to remove a bone spur. He is expected to return for training camp.
• Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Jonny Flynn might miss the start of the regular season after surgery on his left hip. The team says typical recovery time is three to four months.
Added Longtime coaching veteran Bernie Bickerstaff has been named an assistant on Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillan’s staff. McMillan also named Bob Ociepka and former Blazer Buck Williams as assistants. Bickerstaff has spent the last two seasons as an assistant with Chicago.
Retiring American freestyle skier Shannon Bahrke is retiring, ending a 12-year career that spanned three Olympics. Bahrke won the women’s moguls silver medal in the 2002 Salt Lake City Games and added a bronze this year in Vancouver.
Agreed The New York Rangers added offensive punch by agreeing to terms with longtime Los Angeles Kings forward Alexander Frolov, who should provide a potent complement to Marian Gaborik on New York’s top line.
Leaving Australian driver Marcos Ambrose is leaving JTG Daugherty Racing at the end of the season. Ambrose did not say where he will drive next season, but he’s believed to be close to finalizing a deal with Richard Petty Motorsports.
