In brief: Fundraiser set for Cumbie sisters

CLIFF/CANNON – The Glover Mansion, 321 W. Eighth Ave., will host a fundraiser for Anna and Madeline Cumbie next Thursday at 5 p.m.

Anna, 6, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in March 2007. Anna’s 3-year-old sister, Madeline, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in April 2010.

The benefit will include a barbecue buffet.

The suggested donation is $20 for adults and $10 for children. The proceeds will help pay for the girls’ treatments.

Papa John’s sales to benefit center

SPOKANE – Youth for Christ and Papa John’s Pizza are teaming up to raise money for Spokane’s youth.

On Wednesday, all of the pizza sales at Papa John’s locations in Spokane will be donated to the new Youth for Christ youth center in Hillyard.

Families purchasing pizza will have the opportunity to name the price for their pizza, as all sales will benefit the new center.

Limit one pizza per family, while supplies last.

Cycling against pancreatic cancer

CENTENNIAL TRAIL – The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Purple Ride Spok-d’Alene 2010 will be Aug. 28 on the Centennial Trail to raise money for pancreatic cancer research.

The 35-mile bike ride will begin in Mission Park in north Spokane and end in Riverstone Park in Coeur d’Alene.

The ride will include a community picnic and prizes. The Kelly Hughes Band will perform live.

Cost is $20 per person and includes a T-shirt and a picnic ticket. Tickets to the picnic are $10 per person for people not participating in the bike ride.

Soccer coaches needed for fall season

SPOKANE – Spokane Junior Soccer is in need of coaches for fall soccer teams for children ages 4 and older. No experience is necessary.

Coaches will be trained. A background check is required.

Shadle Park class of 1965 plans reunion

NORTHWEST – Shadle Park High School’s class of 1965 will have its 45th school reunion Aug. 6 and . 7.

The festivities will begin with an informal get-together on Aug. 6, from 6 to 10 p.m. at The Venue. Call (509) 487-6013 for details.
