In brief: Pizza sales to help center

SPOKANE – Youth for Christ and Papa John’s Pizza are teaming up to raise money for Spokane’s youth.

On Wednesday, all of the pizza sales at Papa John’s locations in Spokane will be donated to the new Youth for Christ youth center in Hillyard.

Families purchasing pizza will have the opportunity to name the price for their pizza, as all sales will benefit the new center.

Limit one pizza per family, while supplies last.

CENTENNIAL TRAIL – The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Purple Ride Spok-d’Alene 2010 will be Aug. 28 on the Centennial Trail to raise money for pancreatic cancer research.

The 35-mile bike ride will begin in Mission Park in north Spokane and end in Riverstone Park in Coeur d’Alene.

The ride will include a community picnic and prizes. The Kelly Hughes Band will perform live.

Cost is $20 per person and includes a T-shirt and a picnic ticket. Tickets to the picnic are $10 per person for people not participating in the bike ride.

NORTH INDIAN TRAIL – Kellie Gamby Kittilstved, a longtime Spokane resident and former track standout at Rogers High School, died July21. She had suffered from a rare brain tumor.

The medical costs were overwhelming and friends of Kittilstved have set up a benefit account in her name at Spokane Teachers Credit Union. Checks can be mailed to Spokane Teachers Credit Union, 8703 N. Indian Trail Road, Spokane, WA 99208.

Community sale planned

NEVADA/ LIDGERWOOD – The Lyons Park Association will hold its annual community yard sale Friday through Sunday.

The sale will be held at Lyons Park, 1500 E. Lyons Ave., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Open house at Fire Station 92

MEAD – Spokane County Fire District 9 will have an open house at Fire Station 92, 3801 E. Farewell Road in Mead, on Sunday, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Attendees can tour the fire station, meet the firefighters and have some ice cream. Kids can also get their picture taken in a fire truck and say hello to Smokey Bear.

CLIFF/CANNON – The Glover Mansion, 321 W. Eighth Ave., will host a fundraiser for Anna and Madeline Cumbie next Thursdayon Aug. 5 at 5 p.m.

Anna, 6, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in March 2007. Anna’s 3-year-old sister, Madeline, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in April 2010.

The benefit will include a barbecue buffet.

The suggested donation is $20 for adults and $10 for children. The proceeds will help pay for the girls’ treatments.
