No uniform rights

The Spokesman-Review

For the record, service in the armed forces of the United States is not a “right.” While many deem it a privilege, objectively it is an occupation or form of public service open to both citizens and noncitizens under various conditions devised and imposed as deemed appropriate and necessary to the effective functioning of military forces, the essential and overweening objective of which is to prevail over any armed adversary. No other subsidiary goal, purpose or objective should ever be permitted to trump that of military necessity.

There are many other venues available for social engineering, venues that would not impinge upon or compromise the fundamental purpose of a military establishment.
