Nation in brief: Gas line worker killed in blast

The Spokesman-Review

CLEBURNE, Texas – An emergency management official says a missing utility worker has been found dead several hours after a natural gas line erupted in north Texas.

Officials say utility workers accidentally hit the line near Cleburne on Monday, sending a massive fireball into the air.

Thirteen other workers had been accounted for. Some of them were injured and were taken to hospitals.

Authorities had to wait hours to walk through the area to look for the missing worker. They first had to make sure the fire was out and there was no danger.

Hood County Emergency Management Coordinator Brian Fine said the worker’s body was found some distance from the blast site. The man’s name was not immediately released.

Gunman kills wife,

other women, self

HIALEAH, Fla. – A gunman shot and killed his wife outside a South Florida restaurant where she worked, then targeted women inside and killed three others before committing suicide, police said Monday.

Police said 38-year-old Gerardo Regalado bypassed at least two men when he fired at the women inside.

“He went straight for the women,” Hialeah police Detective Eddie Rodriguez said.

Regalado drove off after the shooting, police said. Officers found him dead of an apparent suicide a few blocks away, with the same weapon used in the restaurant shootings, Rodriguez said.

Man jailed for life

for incest, murder

HARRISONVILLE, Mo. – A 49-year-old man who fathered four children with one of his daughters, including one who died after not receiving medical treatment after becoming ill, was sentenced Monday to spend the rest of his life in prison.

The man, whom the Associated Press is not identifying to protect the identity of his victims, shrugged and shook his head when asked by Cass County Circuit Court Judge Jacqueline Cook if he had anything to say.

The man was convicted in April of all charges against him, including second-degree murder, second-degree rape, two counts of incest and two counts of abandonment of a corpse.

Three of the four children the man had with his daughter died. The murder charge stemmed from the death of the child who died after falling ill.
