Colville 8th-grader earns Eagle Scout

Ryan Lytle, a member of Troop 959, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest in the Boy Scouts.

Lytle’s project included organizing a group to make improvements at Douglas Falls Campground in Stevens County. The group rebuilt the large group fire pit site by welding and cementing an in-ground grate with new seating. They also waterproofed the rail fence, cleaned out fire pits, and picked up garbage.

Lytle is an eighth-grader at Colville Junior High School and is the son of J.C. and Jenny Lytle, of Colville.

•Seth Oliveria , a 1997 Coeur d’Alene High graduate, was recently accepted for a seven-year residency at the University of Florida Neurosurgery Department. Oliveria completed an eight-year Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Colorado Denver in May.

He plans to pursue a career in academic neurosurgery, functional neurosurgery, and surgical treatment of epilepsy. His ongoing research interests include neuroprosthetics and the pathophysiology of stroke and epilepsy.

Oliveria is the son of D.F. and Brenda Oliveria, of Coeur d’Alene, is married to Stephanie Ashmore.

•Eight local residents recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base.

Air Force Airman Lucas Woods is the son of Nickki Woods of Spokane and a 2008 graduate of North Central High School

Air National Guard Airman First Class Andrew Luiten graduated in 2005 from Medical Lake High School, and is the son of Dale and Sally Luiten of Medical Lake.

Air Force Airman Andrew Rumbaut Jr. is the son of Andrew Rumbaut and Laura Hendrickson of Spokane and graduated in 2009 from University High School.

Air Force Airman Brenden Marlin is a 2008 graduate of University High School and is the son of Dave and Donalee Marlin of Spokane.

Air Force Airman Kirk Pentland graduated in 2009 from Lakeland High School in Rathdrum, Idaho and is the son of Michael Pentland of Spokane Valley and Rebecca Jacobs of Coeur d’Alene.

Air Force Airman Travis Ditmanson is the son of Troy Ditmanson of Spokane and Barbara Minton of Cataldo, Idaho.

Air Force Airman Raymond Brewer is the son of Marie Brewer of Spokane Valley and Raymond Brewer of Pittsburg, Texas, and graduated in 2005 from Pittsburg High School.

Air Force Airman Russell Freier is a 2004 graduate of University High School and the grandson of Vickilee Syverson of Spokane Valley.

•Three local residents graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

Army National Guard Pvt. Taylor Jones is the son of Toni Jones of Spokane and Jason Jones of Missoula and a 2009 graduate of Hellgate High School in Missoula.

Army Reserve Pfc. Sylvia Morden is the daughter of Shawn Soberg of Spokane Valley.

Army Pvt. Curtis Butler graduated from Jenkins High School in Chewelah in 2009 and is the son of Danny and Dorene McNeil of Spokane.

•Army Pvt. Brandon Gillingham graduated from the Basic Field Artillery Cannon Crewmember Advanced Individual Training course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

Gillingham graduated from East Valley High School in 2007 and is the son of Doug Gillingham of Otis Orchards and Michele Montiel of Richland.

•Army Staff Sgt. Adam Sahlberg was named the Noncommissioned Officer of the Year for the U.S. Army Medical Command’s Western Region.

Sahlberg is a healthcare specialist and combat medic, assigned to the U.S. Medical Command, Fort Irwin, Barstow, Calif. He has served in the military for six years.

He is the son of William and Laura Sahlberg of Spokane and graduated from University High School in 2002.

•Army National Guard Pfc. Shaun Tanner graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Colombia, S.C.

He is the son of Michael Tanner of Spokane and is a 2009 graduate of East Valley High School.

•Private Cameron Dionne graduated from the Marine’s boot camp at MCRD in San Diego.

He graduated from Shadle Park High School in 2007 and is the son of Russell and Lori Dionne of Spokane.
