More showers today, but sun coming for weekend

Clouds and some light rain showers are expected today as the weather gets ready for a shift back to warmth and sunshine. Highs today should reach the middle 60s across the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene areas, but a jump to the 70s and even lower 80s is likely on Saturday and Sunday under sunny skies. An upper-level low pressure area is expected to slowly migrate to the east, allowing higher air pressure and its warming influence to take over on Saturday and Sunday. The chance of showers today is 40 percent, and that will drop to 20 percent tonight. The shower chance falls to zero over the weekend. The weekend warm up should wane on Monday with sun and temperatures in the lower 70s. A weak low pressure system is expected on Monday night and Tuesday, but rain showers should be limited and temperatures are likely to stay in the 70s next week. The normal temperature for this time of year is 72 for a high and 48 for a low. Spokane International Airport recorded 0.20 inches of rain on Thursday, bringing the total since May 17 to nearly 2.5 inches. The unusually wet spring has made up for below-normal precipitation in the fall and winter. Spokane now has had 14.5 inches of precipitation since Oct. 1, which is about three-quarters of an inch more than normal for the period. For this month, the rainfall total is 1.64 inches compared with a normal through June 10 of 0.46 inches. At 7 a.m., it was 47 at the Spokane airport, 50 in downtown Spokane, 48 in Coeur d’Alene and Deer Park and 46 in Pullman. Light rain was reported in Pullman.
