Woman released from hospital after crash

A woman was taken to the hospital today after her sport utility vehicle was broadsided by a driver who ran a red light at the intersection of Sprague Avenue and Monroe Street, in front of the Fox Theater. David Essex, 44, was cited for running the red light in his late model Toyota Tercel. Essex told police he was driving without a driver’s license or insurance. Shortly before 1 p.m., Essex was westbound in the middle lane on West Sprague Avenue when he went through the red light, striking the SUV in the intersection and causing it to flip on its top, police said. The woman driving the SUV was southbound on Monroe, also in the middle lane.
