The Spokesman-Review
A 9-year-old injured in a collision Thursday in north Spokane County has died, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Olivia Chaffin, of Deer Park, was a passenger along with her grandmother in a car driven by her father, Richard Chaffin. A driver who failed to stop at a stop sign broadsided the Chaffins’ vehicle at Monroe and Hazard roads. The girl was airlifted to a Spokane hospital where she was declared brain dead Saturday and died Sunday afternoon. An autopsy was performed Monday. The grandmother, Shirley Chaffin, 64, suffered fractures. Authorities identified the driver of the other vehicle as Echo Henderson, 24, of Clayton, Wash. An investigation of the crash continues, said sheriff’s Detective Dave Thornburg.
