Argentina, Mexico, Greece win at World Cup

Associated Press
Highlights from Thursday’s World Cup action:
  • Gonzalo Higuain of Argentina scored the first hat trick of the tournament, getting three straight goals in a 4-1 victory over South Korea. The win moved Argentina to the verge of advancing and it needs only a draw with Greece to do so.
  • All three substitutes for Mexico played big roles in its 2-0 victory over France. Javier Hernandez and Cuauhtemoc Blanco scored the goals, while Pablo Barrera sparked the offense and forced a penalty kick that Blanco converted.
  • Greece won for the first time in a World Cup, beating 10-man Nigeria 2-1 on goals by Vassilis Torosidis and Dimitris Salpingidis. In their previous World Cup appearance in 1994, the Greeks did not score a goal, either, in three defeats.
