Man in custody, accused of threats

A Spokane County man was booked into jail early Wednesday after he allegedly made death threats and attempted to head-butt a Spokane sheriff’s deputy.

Robert Allen Howley, 47, was jailed on charges of third-degree assault on a law officer, intimidation of a public servant and harassment for threats to kill and injure the deputy and other officers.

The arrest came after Howley was taken into protective custody Tuesday evening when a deputy was dispatched to check on a hang-up call to 911.

At Howley’s home in the 4200 block of North Locust Road, Deputy Darrell Rohde learned that Howley had made comments to another man about suicide, said Sgt. Dave Reagan, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.

On the way to a hospital for psychological evaluation, Howley demanded that he be taken to jail and threatened to kill Rohde and his family, Reagan said.

At the hospital, Howley attempted to head-butt Rohde and made more threats against him. Howley was then taken to jail where he made more threats against corrections officers, Reagan said.
