Sprague reopened after motorcycle mishap

Tue., June 22, 2010, 3:12 p.m.

Sprague Avenue east of the downtown area has reopened.

The roadway was closed to traffic this afternoon while Spokane police investigated an accident involving a patrol car and motorcycle.

The accident occurred just before 1:30 p.m. when a police officer made left turn from Pine Street onto Sprague.

A motorcyclist headed east swerved to avoid the officer’s car, but crashed as a result of the maneuver. Witnesses reported that the motorcyclist was driving recklessly at a high speed, said Officer Jennifer DeRuwe, police spokeswoman.

The vehicles did not collide, but the motorcycle rider had minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. He was wearing a helmet.

The closure was on Sprague between Division and Cowley streets.
