Indians notch first win

The Spokesman-Review

VANCOUVER, B.C. – It took four games, but the Spokane Indians made it into the win column with an 8-1 victory over the Vancouver Canadians in Northwest League baseball action Tuesday.

The Indians took a 1-0 lead off Canadians starter Anvioris Ramirez in the top of the third inning when center fielder Guillermo Pimentel led off with a home run to left field – his first four-bagger of the season.

Spokane stretched the lead to 2-0 with a run in the fourth inning. Michael Olt stroked a two-out double to center and scored on Andrew Clark’s single to right.

Indians starter Chad Bell was stellar in his four-inning first start of the season. Bell allowed two hits and a walk – all in the fourth inning – with five strikeouts.

Spokane added three runs in the fifth inning to make it 5-0 on an RBI groundout by Jared Hoying and a two-run single by Olt.

Vancouver pushed across its lone run in the bottom of the seventh – an unearned tally off Indians reliever Colby Killian.

The Indians scored a pair of runs in the top of the eighth. Clark and Clark Murphy opened with singles and Pimentel and Jurickson Profar delivered run-scoring singles to make the score 7-1.

Spokane capped its scoring with a run in the ninth. Hoying doubled and scored on Clark’s groundout.
