Body found in river near disc golf course

The Spokesman-Review

Spokane police are investigating the discovery of an unidentified body found in the Spokane River on Wednesday.

Rescue crews were called to the Downriver Disc Golf Course after a player reported seeing a person floating in a pool down a steep embankment on the north side of the river about 5:20 p.m.

The Spokane Fire Department water rescue team and the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office dive team quickly responded, but the incident quickly turned into a recovery instead of a rescue. Boat crews were placed in the water as a precaution in case the body, stuck in an eddy pool, broke loose, officials said.

Police have not yet identified the body, which was badly decomposed. It is not known how long it had been in the river or where it entered the river.

Spokane Police Major Crimes detectives are investigating.

The disc golf course is between the Downriver Municipal Golf Course and the river.
