1910 fire featured in exhibit at library

COEUR D’ALENE – A photo exhibit of the 1910 fires is now on display at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library, 702 E. Front Ave.

The images were taken in the days following the great fires of Aug. 20 and Aug. 21, 1910, that burned more than 3 million acres of forest and killed 85 people, a number of them firefighters. The fires burned a large potion of Wallace and destroyed many towns in North Idaho and Montana.

The exhibit is the first of a series of summer activities to remember the 100th anniversary of the great fires. In August, the library, in partnership with the Museum of North Idaho, will host a movie about the fires, along with a tour of Forest Cemetery, including a Forest Service historian.

The Museum of North Idaho will also feature “History on Fire,” as one of its summer exhibits.
