DES MOINES, Iowa – Lewis and Clark High School graduate Britney Henry finished third in the women’s hammer throw at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday.

Henry, who lives in San Diego, was competing unattached and had a mark of 228 feet, 3 inches. Amber Campbell won at 234-8.

Washington State’s Jeshua Anderson finished fifth in the men’s 400-meter hurdles in 49.14 seconds. Bershawn Jackson won in 47.32, the fastest time in the world this year.

Lolo Jones gave the hometown crowd what it came to see, winning the 100-meter hurdles.

It was, in her words, “pure joy.”

For Jeremy Wariner and Sanya Richards-Ross, the outdoor nationals were downright miserable.

Jones, who grew up in Des Moines, cruised to the title in 12.69 seconds, winning her second outdoor national title in 12.69 seconds on a scorching Saturday.

Chaunte Lowe had the breakout performance of the day, snapping her own American record in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 8 3/4 inches. Lowe set the U.S. mark at 6-8 1/4 last month in Cottbus, Germany.
