Motorcyclist strikes deer on highway near Newport

A 45-year-old Spokane Valley man was injured Monday night when he struck a deer while southbound on U.S. Highway 2 near Newport. Chuong N. Cong was taken to Newport Community Hospital where he was treated and released. Washington State Patrol troopers said that the deer was apparently trying to cross the highway eight miles south of Newport about 9:50 p.m. Monday when Cong struck the deer on his 1994 Honda motorcycle. Cong was thrown off the bike, troopers said.
