Wildfire near Ephrata now under control
A wildfire threatening homes in the Ephrata area of Grant County today is now under control. Firefighters are continuing to mop up hot spots.
No homes were lost, but the 150-acre wildfire came within 10 feet of three homes and another structure, a Grant County emergency official said.
Kyle Foreman, a spokesman, said the fire near Drumheller Road NW was being driven by wind in the direction of the homes before being brought under control about 11:45 a.m.
Homeowners were asked to prepare for possible evacuation and take action, including wetting down grass and other plants in case the fire approached their property.
The fire was located between Dodson Road and state Highway 282 a few miles south-southeast of Ephrata. Drumheller Road is located off Highway 282 to the south of Ephrata Municipal Airport.
The fire’s cause remains under investigation.
