Lacy commits to WSU

PULLMAN – Devonte Lacy, a 6-foot-3, 192-pound combo guard from Curtis High in Tacoma, is the first player to commit to Washington State’s 2011 basketball recruiting class.

Lacy attended WSU’s basketball camp last week and was offered a scholarship. The senior-to-be accepted soon after.

“I’ve always liked Wazzu,” Lacy said Tuesday. “It’s a Pac-10 school I like, and I get along with the coaches and the players well. It felt like a family when I was there, so I decided to be part of the family.”

PULLMAN – Devonte Lacy, a 6-foot-3, 192-pound combo guard from Curtis High in Tacoma, is the first player to commit to Washington State’s 2011 basketball recruiting class.

Curtis won the South Puget Sound League South Division championship last season, with Lacy averaging 19.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. He was a first-team all-SPSL selection.

“I like to play the running style,” Lacy said. “Every player loves that. But to find a coach like (WSU’s Ken Bone) who likes to play it and let’s you play your own game, it’s really uncommon. That really played a big factor for me too.”

Lacy’s commitment is non-binding. The earliest high school seniors can sign a national letter of intent is Nov. 10.

•WSU redshirt senior defensive back Anthony Houston will miss much of the 2010 football season after suffering a ruptured left Achilles tendon in summer workouts, the school announced Tuesday.

The 6-3, 208-pound Houston, who was rehabilitating a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered near the end of last season, was expected to supply depth at cornerback this fall.
