LEWISTON, Idaho — The coach of the Lewis-Clark State College baseball team is stepping down after 34 years at the helm and 16 national championships.

Ed Cheff notified school officials Tuesday he intends to retire as head coach of the Warriors effective Sept. 1.

During his tenure, Cheff developed the Warriors into a perennial powerhouse and led his team to 16 NAIA World Series titles. Several of his players have gone on to play in the major leagues.

Cheff thanked administrators, faculty and staff for creating an atmosphere that helped him recruit quality players to the small college.
