Bullet landed on girl’s bed; police seek suspect

Spokane Valley Police continue to search for a suspect who on Saturday night fired a shot through an apartment wall that struck the metal post of the bed where a 3-year-old girl was sleeping. The girl’s mother found the bullet when she pulled back the girl’s covers to check on her after the shooting and the bullet fell to the floor, Spokane Valley Police spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan said in news release. The incident began at 10:25 p.m. Saturday when officers were called to the apartments located at 15917 E. Sprague by a man who reported someone shooting at his apartment from the parking lot below. Officers arrived and found a group of people standing on an upper landing and two bullet casings on the ground in front of them. Reagan said the report did not identify the caliber of the spent rounds. The man told Officer Cole Speer that he and a friend had been playing cards in another part of the complex and were walking home when they were confronted by a pair of males demanding to know why he had called police about noise. One of the suspects, later identified only as “Joe,” pulled what appeared to be a gun out of the waistband of his pants. The unidentified man who called police retreated into his apartment, Reagan said. The man said he could hear the suspect slide the action of what sounded like a semi-automatic pistol, and then shots were fired into his wall. One of the bullets passed through the exterior wall about 3 feet off the floor. It’s the one that struck the metal bed post and landed on the blankets covering the 3-year-old girl, Reagan said. The two suspects were gone when police arrived. Joe was described as a white male in his late 20s, 6 feet tall and thin. He was possibly left handed and wore a white baseball cap with a dark logo.
