Extended The Dallas Stars have signed veteran forward Steve Ott to a four-year, $11.8 million contract extension. The deal announced Monday locks up the 27-year-old winger through the 2013-14 season. Ott has played all 389 games of his NHL career with the Stars. Ott has 11 goals and 12 assists in 52 games this season. He had career highs with 19 goals, 27 assists and 46 points last season.

Scheduled Milwaukee Bucks guard Michael Redd is scheduled to have surgery on his injured left knee today. The veteran is out for the season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament in a game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Jan. 10. It’s the second major injury to his left knee in less than a year. Redd tore the same two ligaments last January.

Waived The Chicago Bears have waived former All-Pro tackle Orlando Pace after one season in which he was limited to 11 games because of injuries. The Bears also waived tight end Fontel Mines and guard Tyler Reed. Chicago signed Pace last season as a free agent to help patch up a faulty offensive line.

Dismissed A Pittsburgh judge dismissed charges of simple assault and resisting arrest against Steelers kicker Jeff Reed, who was accused of raising his fists at a Pittsburgh police officer when ordered back in his vehicle as police dealt with a teammate.

Died Golf’s Greg Rita, the caddie for Curtis Strange when he won successive U.S. Open titles and for John Daly when he won the British Open, has died of brain cancer. Rita’s wife, Kelley, said he died Saturday on his 54th birthday at McGraw Hospice Center in Jacksonville, Fla.
