Driver arrested after cyclist fatally injured in Spokane
A driver in Spokane was arrested late Monday night after fleeing the scene of a fatal collision with a bicyclist at Division Street and Sprague Avenue downtown.
Scott C. Reckord, 49, was booked into Spokane County Jail on a vehicular homicide charge after he failed a field sobriety test and on a charge of felony hit and run.
The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the bicycle rider as David Squires, 56. Squires died of skull fractures caused by blunt impact to the head.
Police said Reckord, who owns the Sullivan Scoreboard tavern in Spokane Valley, was driving a pickup headed north on one-way Division and turned left to go west on Sprague, where he collided with Squires in a crosswalk.
Squires was hit about 6:40 p.m. and was taken to a local hospital, where he died. A witness followed the fleeing driver until he returned to the scene, police said.

Riding on the Road - When riding on a roadway, a cyclist has all the rights and responsibilities of a vehicle driver (RCW 46.61.755). Cyclists who violate traffic laws may be ticketed (RCW 46.61.750).
the cyclist was riding the wrong way down a one way. THanks for your advice but hopefully the laws will change as a result of this tragedy.

Oops, here is another law that wasn’t being followed!

FYI— That intersection is a “NO LEFT TURN” , not to mention the driver was drunk… I am certainly NEVER returning to his business again!
