In brief: Senior center offers ‘Tastes of Travel’

LINCOLN HEIGHTS – The Southside Senior Activity Center, 3151 E. 27th Ave., will host “Tastes of Travel,” a travel luncheon and fashion show on March 16, beginning at 11:45 a.m.

The fashion show will center on travel with attire from The Discovery Shop, the American Cancer Society’s gently-used, reasonably-priced retail store in the Garland District, and an international lunch menu, including spaghetti and meatballs, Greek salad, French garlic bread, Irish tea and dessert of French cream puffs. All fashions will be available for sale.

Tickets are $6 per person.

Candlelighters benefit includes fun, games

DIVISION – Bumpers Family Fun Center in the NorthTown Mall will host a phone-a-thon for Candlelighters of the Inland Northwest next Thursday, from 1 to 7 p.m.

DJs for Clear Channel Radio, Cody Carlson and Paul Neumann, along with Candlelighters Director Mary Anne Ruddis, will host the phone-a-thon, to be broadcast on KIX 96. Carlson,

Bumpers Family Fun Center has donated the use of its facility to allow people donating $10 or more to Candlelighters at Bumpers to have access into the arcade, receiving unlimited play on the video games, bumper cars, mini golf and train rides.

Walk-a-thon benefits Haiti quake victims

CHENEY – Eastern Washington University’s Undergraduate Bachelor Social Work Organization will sponsor a walk-a-thon to benefit earthquake victims in Haiti, on Saturday.

The walk will start outside Pence Union Building and will run from 3 to 6 p.m.

Participants will raise money for the earthquake victims by soliciting donations from family, friends and local businesses for each mile they walk.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m., community members and performers from EWU will put on a benefit concert, in the multipurpose room at the PUB.

All proceeds from the walk-a-thon will be donated to Heartline Ministries.

EWU theater presents ‘Romeo and Juliet’

CHENEY – Students in Eastern Washington University’s Theater Program will perform William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Sunday and next Thursday at 5 p.m., and March 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the EWU Theatre in Cheney.

Cost is $5 per person. EWU students and one guest are admitted for free with a student ID card.
