Bridges idled on Oscar ads

From Wire Reports

Hyundai has pulled Jeff Bridges’ voice from its ads airing during Sunday night’s Academy Awards broadcast because of a rule limiting the use of nominees in advertising.

Bridges, nominated for the best actor award for his role in “Crazy Heart,” has voiced ads for the Korean automaker since 2007.

The stars replacing Bridges on ads airing during the ABC broadcast will include Catherine Keener, Kim Basinger, David Duchovny, Richard Dreyfuss, Michael Madsen, Mandy Patinkin and Martin Sheen.

Joel Ewanick, marketing vice president for Hyundai’s American arm, said the new voices will bring variety.

But he added in a statement: “We’ll be happy to return to our normal casting after the show.”

That’s too hot

Paris Hilton’s sultry ad for a Brazilian beer has been pulled after consumer complaints and a watchdog agency’s investigation.

The television and Internet ad featured Hilton in a short black dress preening and rubbing a can of Devassa beer on herself, all to the delight of onlookers watching through her window.

Ad watchdog group Conar said regulations don’t permit beer commercials to treat women as overtly sensual objects.

Too much information

Jessica Simpson is none too pleased that ex-boyfriend John Mayer referred to her in Playboy magazine as “sexual napalm.”

On Oprah Winfrey’s show Wednesday, Simpson said she doesn’t want people “to know how I am in bed.”
