YAKIMA – Powered by tournament Most Valuable Player Cody Shackett, Cascade Christian started strong and held on for a 45-35 victory over Meridian (19-8) for the State 1A title Saturday.

Shackett poured in a game-high 22 points – including 13 in the second half and seven of his team’s final nine points. He was also the defensive catalyst that jump-started the Cougars’ first half.

Shackett had six of his seven steals in the first half as Cascade Christian powered to a 29-8 halftime advantage.

Despite giving up about 3 inches per man, Cascade Christian earned its first trophy in four state trips.

Freeman’s Taylor Vold was chosen to the all-tournament second team.
