Roundup: Sasquatch men, women finish 5th

 

Danny Marshall had 19 points and 17 rebounds, and Chris Pynch and Griffon Jones each scored 18 to power the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch (24-6) to a fifth-place finish Tuesday with a 74-69 win over Bellevue (20-9) at the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges men’s basketball tournament in Kennewick.

Zach Humphrey scored 12 for the Sasquatch, who won three straight after losing their tourney opener.

CC Spokane 65, Columbia Basin 60: Meghan Eisenmann tallied 17 points and blocked two shots and Brooke Randall scored 13 to guide the Sasquatch (19-10) to a fifth-place finish with a win over the Hawks (18-11) on the final day of the NWAACC women’s basketball tournament in Kennewick.

Eleaya Schuerch grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for the Sasquatch, who dropped their opener before winning three consecutive games.

Track and field

Washington State and the University of Idaho are each sending two athletes and Eastern Washington one to the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

High jumpers Trent Arrivey and Holly Parent will represent WSU.

Mykael Bothum will compete in the women’s shot put and Jeremy Klas in the men’s pole vault for Idaho.

Nicole Luckenbach will vie in the women’s weight throw.

•Whitworth is sending three athletes to the Division III championships at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. Cody Stelzer will defend his title in the high jump. Emmanuel Bofa will compete in the 800 and Jeff Kintner in the shot put.

Bofa was named West Region athlete of the year, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced.

His coach, Toby Schwarz, was selected as men’s West Region coach of the year.

Women’s golf

The Gonzaga Bulldogs finished last at the 16-team Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational in San Jose, Calif., with a team scored of 958.

Victoria Fallgren tied for 30th place with a 16-over-par 232 over the three-round event to pace Gonzaga.

California (899) won the team title. San Jose State’s Cristina Corpus was the medalist with a 1-over 217.

Arena football

The Spokane Shock made a pair of roster moves – adding defensive back Jeremy Unertl, while re-assigning wide receiver Robert Redd.
