Monk to offer several talks in Spokane area

The Venerable Geshe Thupten Phelgye, a Buddhist monk, will speak in several locations in the area this week.

Phelgye will be at the Unity Center of North Spokane, 4123 E. Lincoln Road, during the Sunday service from 11 a.m. to noon. The topic of conversation will be “Identifying the Real Enemy.”

On Monday, the Unitarian Universalist Church, 4340 W. Fort George Wright Drive, will present Phelgye from 6:30 to 8 p.m., when he will speak on the topic “Friend, Enemy or Stranger: Are we all so different?”

He will be at Whitworth University Chapel Tuesday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and will speak about “Religious Harmony and the Situation of Tibet.”

On Wednesday he will speak at the Gonzaga University Law School from noon to 3 p.m. about “The State of Tibet.”

More speakers and workshops

St. Aloysius Parish will present “Exploring Charisms” Saturday and Sunday after all Novena services and Masses.

The meetings are for men and women wishing to explore the spiritual traditions of the Catholic faith, including associations with women-religious communities and undertaking the “Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius” in everyday life.

Spring luncheon and card party

St. Francis of Assisi Church, 4420 N. Jefferson St., will present its spring luncheon and card party Wednesday from noon to 3 p.m.

The lunch will include a chicken casserole, confetti salad, rolls, dessert and coffee or tea.

The cost to attend is $6 and reservations must be made by Saturday.
