Only in the NCAA Tournament can a team play in the West Region – and face a road trip to Buffalo, N.Y.

That’s the fate of the Gonzaga University Bulldogs, who drew the West’s No. 8 seed on Selection Sunday and will face No. 9 seed Florida State on Friday at 4:10 p.m. PDT in HSBC Arena. The Spokane subregional, which opens Friday in the Arena, will host eight teams from the Midwest and South regions. Friday’s matchups are Michigan State vs. New Mexico State and Maryland vs. Houston in the Midwest, and Texas A&M vs. Utah State and Purdue vs. Siena in the South.

For a closer look at GU’s road, the Spokane subregional and the tournament bracket, see a special four-page section on Page B1.
