Pirates stop Tigers in softball opener

Sara Anthony got the job done on the mound and at the plate for Rogers in a Greater Spokane League opener at Hart Field on Tuesday.

Anthony struck out three in a complete-game effort, doubled home a run and scored twice to power the Pirates to an 11-3 win over the Lewis and Clark Tigers.

In other GSL openers, Breann Warren went 4 for 4 with a home run, double and three RBIs to lead the University Titans to a 7-4 road win over the East Valley Knights. … Gonzaga Prep jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings and held on for a 7-5 win over host Ferris. … Delaney Zalud allowed just one hit while striking out 12 over seven inning to propel the Mt. Spokane Wildcats to a 4-1 road win over the North Central Indians. … Lauren Stewart had four hits, scored three runs and drove in a pair to spark visiting Mead to an 11-1 romp over Shadle Park.

•Jamie Yuric had a two-run single during a five-run eighth as Lake City (3-0, 3-0) posted a 5-1 win at Post Falls (1-1, 0-1) in the Inland Empire League.

Baseball

The Lake City Timberwolves (1-2, 1-2) scored seven runs in the first two innings and banged out 17 hits on the day en route to a 9-6 victory over the visiting Post Falls Trojans (1-1, 1-1) in IEL play.
