Bullpups slip past Knights

 

Shane Schmidlkofer scored three goals – including the winner 2 minutes into overtime – to lift the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups to a 3-2 victory over the visiting East Valley Knights in a Greater Spokane League opener Wednesday.

Schmidlkofer staked G-Prep to a 1-0 halftime lead with a goal in the 29th minute.

East Valley knotted the score on a goal by Alex Talley 2 minutes into the second half.

Schmidlkofer – with an assist from Chase Winkler – put the Bullpups back on top 2-1 in the 43rd minute, but Sean Frucci pulled the Knights even again with a goal in the 58th minute.

Elsewhere in GSL openers, Alec Cutter knocked home a pair of first-half goals and Isaac Peter added a second-half score to propel the Ferris Saxons to a 3-0 victory over the visiting Shadle Park Highlanders. Nick Stebbins made five saves in collecting the shutout. The Saxons outshot Shadle Park 21-6. … Gabe Kohler took a crossing pass from Jamal Angell and scored a goal just 4 minutes into the match and the Lewis and Clark Tigers made it stand up in a 1-0 victory at Hart Field over the visiting North Central Indians, who managed just one shot on goal in the game. Garrett Brickey saved 13 of 14 shots for the Indians. … Gabe Arias netted two goals and an assist and Ben Doggett chipped in with a goal and an assist to power the Mead Panthers to a 3-0 victory over the visiting Central Valley Bears. Arias scored his goals 4 minutes apart in the first half, while Doggett’s tally came 6 minutes after halftime. Central Valley outshot Mead 6-5… Destin Edwards broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the 35th minute and the University Titans – who had four players find the net – added three second-half goals en route to a 4-0 victory over the visiting Mt. Spokane Wildcats. Matt Harper finished with a pair of assists and Aaron Gleason capped the scoring with a penalty-kick tally in the 64th minute. University finished with a 16-4 advantage in shots on goal.
