In brief: ‘Walkability’ audit seeks participants

From Local Reports

Logan – The city of Spokane’s office of Neighborhood Services, Bicycle Alliance of Washington and Pedestrian Transportation and Traffic Committee plan to host a “walkability” audit workshop Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon at St. Aloysius School, 611 E. Mission Ave.

An audit assesses the walking environment in a neighborhood. The audit can take stock of sidewalks and crosswalks, access to bus stops and bike lanes, or it can focus on a particular area such as a dangerous intersection.

By hosting the walkability workshop now, Jonathan Mallahan, director of Neighborhood Services, said he hopes workshop participants will host audits in their own neighborhoods during Traffic Awareness and Pedestrian Safety week April 9-18.
