Traded The Seattle Seahawks, attempting to bolster their quarterback position, traded Thursday for San Diego’s Charlie Whitehurst, who has yet to throw a pass in the NFL. Seattle swapped its second-round pick in next month’s draft, allowing the Chargers to move up 20 spots to No. 40 overall, to take San Diego’s 60th choice. The Seahawks also gave San Diego a 2011 pick, believed to be a third-rounder. Whitehurst, who played at Clemson, was taken by the Chargers in the third round in the 2006 draft.

Expected Detroit Pistons guard Rodney Stuckey is expected to play tonight, two weeks after collapsing on the bench during a game. Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars said Stuckey has practiced well and expects him to play at Indiana against the Pacers. Stuckey was out of the lineup Tuesday night against Cleveland, missing his sixth straight game.

Suspended Anaheim Ducks defenseman James Wisniewski has been suspended for eight games without pay for delivering a hit to the head area of Chicago defenseman Brent Seabrook. The incident occurred at 2:22 of the second period during Wednesday night’s 4-2 win by Anaheim. Wisniewski was assessed a minor charging penalty, and Seabrook suffered an injury on the play.

Signed The Arizona Diamondbacks signed third baseman Mark Reynolds to a three-year contract. The deal runs through 2012 and includes a club option for 2013. Last year, Reynolds hit 44 home runs and had 102 RBIs, both career highs. He also struck out 223 times last season, breaking the major league record he set the previous year.

•Two days after joining the Philadelphia Eagles in a trade, defensive end Darryl Tapp signed a three-year contract. The 25-year-old Tapp will compete for a starting spot at the left end with Victor Abiamiri and Juqua Parker.

Sidelined Chicago Cubs reliever Angel Guzman will have surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right shoulder and could be out for the season. The surgery will be performed Tuesday by orthopedist James Andrews, who has already operated on Guzman’s elbow and shoulder. The Cubs did not offer a timetable for his return. He pitched in a career-high 55 games last season, posting a 2.95 ERA.
