Pecka, Gallagher help power Panthers

Jill Pecka went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Regin Gallagher put the Mt. Spokane softball team away with a three-run home run in the seventh inning as Mead (2-0) knocked off the Wildcats (1-1) 6-2 in Greater Spokane League action Thursday at Mt. Spokane.

Alisha Meade picked up the complete-game win for the Panthers, allowing two runs on eight hits.

In other GSL games, Allie Riggin went 2 for 5 with four RBIs and a home run as East Valley (1-1) erupted for 10 runs in the second and third innings to beat Lewis and Clark (0-2) 13-8 at EV. Tiffany Lucas earned the win and finished 3 for 5 with two RBIs, and Vanessa Purcell tripled and went 3 for 4. LC’s Kendall Pavey went 2 for 3 with four RBIs and a homer. … Lindsey Gibson struck out 10 and allowed just two runs on five hits while going the distance and visiting Central Valley (1-0) scored six unanswered runs in the third and fourth innings to cruise to a 10-2 victory over Rogers (1-1). … After trailing 3-2 after two innings, University (2-0) scored 10 consecutive runs, knocking off Gonzaga Prep (1-1) 12-5 at G-Prep. Breann Warren and Alene Bethel each homered and combined to drive in five runs for the Titans. … Ferris (1-1) scored nine unearned runs as host Shadle Park (0-2) committed 10 errors, helping the Saxons to a 9-7 win.

Baseball

David McNeill, who snapped a 3-3 tie with two outs in the top of the eighth inning by hitting a grand slam, pitched a scoreless bottom of the frame to lift visiting Lewis and Clark to a 7-3 victory over Ferris in a GSL opener. The Saxons tied the game with two runs off McNeill in the bottom of the seventh but could not get to him in their final at-bats.

In other GSL openers, Mike Allen tallied three hits, three runs and three RBIs to help lead East Valley to an 8-7 win over host North Central. Aaron Awberry allowed one run in four innings, striking out seven to earn the win. … John Rabose threw a two-hit shutout with nine strikeouts to carry University to a 2-0 victory over visiting Gonzaga Prep. Thomas Wakem and Tony Tabish each knocked in runs in the third for the game’s only scoring. … David Borgman and Scott Simon each homered and drove in a pair of runs as Central Valley scored seven straight runs and cruised to a 9-2 win over host Rogers. … The result of the Mt. Spokane-Shadle Park game was unavailable.

Boys soccer

Victor Tardelli scored three goals, including two in the second half, to lift visiting Deer Park (2-0, 2-0) to a 4-3 victory over Great Northern League foe Clarkston (1-1, 1-1). The Stags led 2-1 at the half on a goal by Tardelli at the 21-minute mark, then put the game out of reach in the 58th minute on Tardelli’s third goal.

In other GNL games, Cheney (2-1, 2-0) outshot West Valley (0-2, 0-2) 17-7 and scored two second-half goals to beat the Eagles 2-0 at WV. Nick Brown made nine saves for WV, but Evan Cook and Forrester Seipp each scored for the Blackhawks after the break. … Taylor Satcher and Gabe Lossurdo scored two goals apiece and Medical Lake (2-0, 2-0) blanked Colville (0-2, 0-2) 5-0 at ML. … Pullman (1-2, 1-1) led 2-0 after one half and then poured it on after the break, finishing off Riverside (0-4, 0-2) 6-0 in Pullman.
